Test material
We arranged for the Mini Crosser T-model to be crash-tested while using the restraint system Q'Straint Q-5001, supplied by Handi Mobil Herning. Q’Straint Q-5001 is designed for securing wheelchairs in vehicles. The crash test was carried out in accordance with standards ISO 10542-1 and 10542-2.

The purpose of the test was to measure the effect of fierce braking on the wheelchair and the restraining belt. As part of the test, a dummy weighing 76.5 kg was placed in the wheelchair.
The test
The actual test was performed by mounting the wheelchair and test dummy on a carriage designed to simulate the sudden deceleration which occurs in a collision. The wheelchair was fixed to the carriage with the restraint system. The carriage was then moved down a rail at a speed of 50 km per hour and braked suddenly, exposing the dummy to a force of 20 G (20 x weight = approx. 4 tonnes).
Results
After the test, all parts were intact and the scooter was able to operate despite the severe treatment.
Comments
As the film shows, the effects are extreme when a vehicle is decelerated in 15 ms. The person and the vehicle are subjected to around 20 G, while the maximum force a person can survive is about 15 G. The aim of the test was to test, first, whether the restraint can hold, and secondly, whether the vehicle is able to operate after the test. The test shows that all parts are intact and that the scooter is able to drive away from the test site.
